What is sleep?

Last night was the first night that we were going to be firm and start the process of getting Ely used to soothing himself to sleep. After a nice shower Ely fell asleep at 9pm. He woke up at midnight and cried but luckily he fell back asleep after a few minutes. At 1:30 he woke up again and started to cry. This time he was louder and sounded pretty mad. We left him alone for another 15 minutes before I went to feed him. At one point, his eyes were wide open and I quietly told him that it wasn't time to wake up yet. He slept until 4:30 am. He ate again and slept by my side before I had to wake up again in another hour.

We are hoping that Ely will sleep through the night once he is 6 months of old.

Tomorrow I am going to take Ely to our coworkers home for a happy hour. We'll see how Ely does. We may not be able to stay long enough for the boat tour to find Ichiro's home.

Showers

Ely likes water. He likes to take showers. It s funny to see him finally recognize water coming out of the shower. He started to laugh when I was drying him. It's rewarding to see Ely engaged and reacting his surroundings. He's not a big blob anymore!

We made it to Anacortes(two hour drive) to see Sung's little aunt (little grandma). Ely slept all the way there. Once we got there he was very good as little grandma took him around the store. He smiled at everyone and was very happy.

Afterwards we went to Deception Pass and walked on the bridge. He slept the entire time and didn't get a chance to enjoy the beautiful scenery (as usual). He did wake up for a little bit There was a lot of people out and about enjoying the nice weather.

Curious Ely

Sleeping 6 hours!
Ely is still waking up around 2am to eat. We tried to have him sleep in his crib and have Sung sooth him in the middle of the night. Ely can't be soothed...instead he sucks on Sung's arm and cries in hunger. Luckily he goes to bed after eating.

Chew Chew!
Ely has started to chew. He chews on his hands and toys. He doesn't really chew on his blanket though.

High maintenance!
At daycare especially, Ely cries if he stays in one position for too long. He needs to be rotate every 15 minutes or so and loves to look at his friends. At home, he doesn't like to lie on his back. Instead he likes to sit on the high chair and watch us eat. He also likes to be wheeled around so that he can watch us make dinner.

Potty train?
Lately Ely cries when his diaper is wet. He does his at daycare as well. We'll hoping that he keeps his up so that he will be potty trained sooner.

Funny Ely

Mayboobae said that Ely rolled by himself today. He is also good at getting attention. When he sees her while he is in the baby corner, he waves his arms and legs and gets her to come to him. Funny Ely!

Ely was good while he sat in his high chair and watched us eat. He likes to watch us eat now. I think he is wondering what we are doing.

It was dangerous to be at Janie and Jack during their big sale. Luckily I was exchanging an outfit and I had to buy stuff to exchange it with. I gave in and got Ely a super cute button up shirt. I've figured out that button up shirts are good for Ely because his head doesn't have to fit through a small opening. He also looks super cute in it. Pictures to come soon!

Laughing Ely

Ely made up our sleepless night by laughing today. Sung and I both attempted to so something silly to make Ely laugh and it finally worked.

Ely is four months old

Ely is four months old (as of the 15thCheck Spelling). We sort of had a busy Monday so I didn't get a chance to write. I was very tired on Sunday too and I let Ely sleep next to me in our bed. Sung offered to move Ely but I managed to wake up for a minute to growl at him to leave us alone (in case Ely woke up).

It's amazing that this little guy is already four months old. He is growing so much and developing his own personality.

At four months Ely:
Weighs 15 lbs and 7 ounces (50 percentile)
26 inches long (90 percentile)
18 inches in head circumference(97 percentile but the nurse put a ^ arrow next to it....)

Updates at four months:
-Ely outgrew a cute onesie that we got from a friend. It fit him length and width wise but his head doesn't fit. I managed to wedge his little head into it (the onesie was cute) but he wasn't happy about it. Sung took off the onesie (just barely) and Ely cried after a 5 second delayed response. Poor guy!
-Ely follows us around the room and smiles at us when he sees us. He smiles at us when we pick him up from daycare. He cried once because I didn't hold him right away.
-Ely is very mellow and easy going. He smiles and loves to talk to people. He doesn't cry much and even when he does, it's not very loud. I heard a baby screaming in the mall (around Ely's age) and I was so thankful that Ely doesn't cry so loud. He does like to pout and cry very softly making this "MMmmmm--waaaaaaa" sound. He looks so cute when he does it. At times he screams but luckily he doesn't do it very often.
-Just in the last few days Ely has learned that he can put other things in his mouth other than his own hands. He is still testing out what tastes good.
-Ely has learned that pulling on my hair is fun. He also likes to pull on Sung's hair but it's not as easy to do. Charlie got pulled on too but he was very patient with Ely.
-We are slowly adjusting to the life of us both working and Ely being at daycare fulltime. It was sadder to see Ely at daycare when I was so busy at work and I wasn't able to spend much time with him. Now that it's slowed down at work and I have time to visit Ely during lunch, it's been very good.
-A few nights a week Ely sleeps 6-7 hours straight. He has woken up at 2 am hungry but I've gotten so used to it because I don't have any problem falling right back to sleep.
-Ely loves to watch us eat. He watches our lips when we talk and at times, he has reached out and grabs my mouth. It's pretty funny how strong of a grasp he has.
-Last Friday Ely rolled from his tummy to his back for the first time. He hasn't repeated this yet but I have a feeling that one day he will just roll and roll around the living room and that I will wish that he would stay still in one spot.

I can't wait until Ely can use a walker to wheel himself around the room. I saw a 5 month old use the walker and it was hilarious to see him wheel himself around all over the room.

I've vowed to not buy any more shoes. I also vowed to not buy any more clothes but Ely needed more shorts for the summer (he only had two pairs) and the cute gym shorts were on sale at Carters. On top of that, there was a double coupon day at Carters so I stocked up on shorts. I did buy them in 9 month sizes so we should be set for now. As for now, I vow not to buy any more cute clothes or shoes. If I buy any more shoes, I need to go to a shoe-a-holic-anonymous and get some therapy. Seriously!

The weather has been so awesome! Ely gets a break today because he is recovering from his shots but as long as the weather holds up, we'll take walks after work everyday. Charlie likes to ride on Ely's stroller when he gets tired. He is very good about not falling out of the stroller even when I tilt it to go over sidewalks.

I can't wait to see the pictures from Yeun Lui. He was soooo cute in this pictures. I got a lambskin rug from Costco on sale so I can't wait to take pictures of Ely on the rug. I am thinking of a group shot of Ely, Toby and Charlie on the rug but Toby may get possessive over the rug (he has a thing about blankets and rugs). We'll see! Hopefully Ely feels better tomorrow so that I can take some pictures of him. :)

Now our next thing to think about is whether we will go to Canon Beach again this year. It was very relaxing to go there and lay on the beach. It's a bit of a long drive to go there so we're not sure if we'll go again this year. We did manage to drive there with 3 dogs last year with Toby practically whining all the way there and on our way back for hours and hours so it may not be as bad with Ely. Toby and Charlie may need to stay with our friends though. It was hard to have the dogs with us because we have to leave them in the car while we ate and shopped and it got pretty warm outside in the summer. We'll see! It would be nice to go to a nice warm beach.

What a weekend!

We had a very busy weekend. We did lots of eating with friends. Ely was getting used to pictures taken while he didn't like the photographers blowing at his face to make him smile.

Yeun Lui 1 of 2
We took Ely to Yeun Lui for the Children's Special for his 4 month old pictures (he is turning 4 months on the 15th). It was a very quick 15 minute photo session. Afterwards, we headed over to See Kai Run warehouse sale in Woondinville. We met up with Lisa, Paj and Jadie. It was very hectic shopping inside in a little area with lots and lots of shoes everywhere. Ely ended up with 7 pairs of shoes in various sizes. Ely promised me that his feet will grow slowly so that he can wear all of his cute little shoes for a long time. I ended up with a farmers tan from waiting in line outside to pay for the shoes. Luckily Sung was waiting in the long line while I shopped for shoes. By the time I was done shopping, he got pretty close to the front of the line.

After eating lunch with our friends we headed home and took a nap. The nap turned out to be longer than we anticipated and by the time we woke up, we had to quickly head out for a dinner with our other friends. We had dinner at BJ's in Southcenter. After we were done with dinner, the guys were chatting away as usual. Ely started to have a nervous breakdown because it was 8:30 pm and it was his bed time. We had to hurry out before Ely started to scream.

Yeun Lui 2 of 2:
Our friend Anne gave us her family photo session so we got more pictures taken on Sunday. Luckily at least one of us (Ely) is photogenic so we had one pose that we really liked. Sung and I agreed that we need to loose weight before our outdoor photo session with Fred. Sung was very happy about having his body covered by either Ely or me.

We shopped while waiting to eat dinner with Soon.  I went to JoAnne fabrics and bought some soft fabric that I am going to use for Ely's photo session at the Lee's. I decided that after spending way too much at Yeun Lui for Ely's pictures that I could easily do at home, I was going to start collecting props so that I could take pictures at home. They only took 12 shots (4 poses) and I usually take much more than that at home. I also got tulle fabric that I can use for hide-n-seek with Ely. Only $.75 for a whole yard!

Here is Ely's pooping pose before we headed inside at Yeun Lui.

All in a day

I was able to visit Ely at daycare during lunch. Luckily he was awake after eating his early lunch. I played with him for nearly an hour before heading back to work. Baby Zoe was playing sort of rough with Ely (hitting his toes and hands) so they were telling her to play gentle. She listen and played gentle except when they weren't looking, she poked at Ely's face and almost poked his eye. Opps! Ely didn't care. Zoe is too cute. He just starred at her and didn't mind her hitting his feet, hands, and poking him in the eye (almost).

Ely is experimenting with putting toys in his mouth. He just couldn't make up his mind on which toy to play with.

Finally a day without bringing work home. It's a good day.

Ely flipped over from his tummy for the first time today! We tried to make him do it fo the camera but he was too tired.

Where did the day go?

I have been adjusting to going back to work. Last week went by super fast. On Saturday I managed to go into work from 5:30am through 6:30 pm. Ely wasn't very happy about me not being home to feed him because in the time I was gone, Sung was only able to feed him 7-8 ounces. Ely should eat 4 ounces every 3 hours. Poor Ely waited for me to come home and he ate a ton once I got home to feed him.

As slowly as Sung and I have been adjusting to the work week, Ely has been growing like a weed. I picked Ely up once I got home today and he felt heavier. He is also starting to roll to his side according to Sung and Mayboobae. I asked Ely to roll over for me too but he didn't. He also played with a bunny that daddy got him but he didn't play with it once I got home. Bummers....

It's amazing to see Ely develop. He sees us when we move around the room and loves to watch us eat. He also looks quite amazed when I make funny noises in/with my mouth like snorting, whistling, clicking, etc.

When I dropped off Ely at daycare, we saw Madison's daddy drop her off. Ely starred and starred at Madison's dad. Once he saw Mayboobae, he gave her huge smile. Sweet Ely!

I am looking forward to this weekend and spending time with Ely. Last Saturday I had to work and took Ely to work with me for a few hours. He was very good and took a long nap even though he usually doesn't take long naps in the morning. I also had to work that night and all day Saturday so I missed out on play time with Ely.

It seems like not that I am back at work, I can see how fast Ely is growing. He grows so much in the 9 hours I don't see him. I can't wait to see Ely crawl and run around the house!

When Sung picked up Ely at daycare, Boonie told him that Ely is a very easy baby to babysit. Sung thinks we deserve a discount of some sort. haha. Ely has been saving his explosive poopoos for daycare. :)

Thanks Ely!

Ely gave me a very good b-day gift today. He let me sleep for close to 7 hours straight!!!! He went to bed at 10pm and woke up at 4:45am. He also woke me up from talking to himself. Luckily he doesn't wake up screaming like he used to when he was little. Good boy!!

Toby and Charlie were good today too! They didn't have a nervous breakdown when I put them in their kennel. I bribed Toby with a chicken treat 10 minutes before he needed to go into his kennel. He kept going to his kennel and coming back down because I didn't go upstairs with him. Eventually he went in his kennel and whined because I didn't give him his treat. Smart boy!

Thanks boys!!!

Ely saved his explosive poo-poo for daycare yesterday. He pooped out of his diaper. Good job Ely! Ely recognizes Mayboobae now. She said that when she comes back from her lunch break and say's "hi" to him, he gives her a huge smile. He also loves to talk to everyone who plays with him. Maybe that's why he doesn't talk much when he gets home. He is probably all warn out.

Day two

Ely smiled at Mayboobae this morning when he saw him.

Today Ely took three naps at daycare...only a total of 30 minutes. Once we got home, he stayed up until 7:30 and played. The sleep deprivation got to him eventually and he started to cry and scream a little bit before he fell asleep. I wonder how long he will sleep tonight. He also didn't poop all day so he may save a nice big one for me or Mayboobae. We'll see!

We did make it out for a quick walk around the neighborhood. I found my eyes slowly getting heavier and the walk around the neighborhood seemed longer today. It was still better than yesterday. Sleeping 7 hours (not all at once) was much better than 4 hours for sure!

Ely scratched him face at daycare. I even filed his little nails this morning but the sharp corners got to his little face. Poor guy.

Lately Ely loves to look at my face when I eat. I stuck my tongue out at him an he thought it was the funniest thing. It was funny until he decided to grad at my tongue. Gross Ely! He does the cutest thing when I lean over to give him a kiss on his forehead. He follows my mouth with his eye open wide and keeps leaning back to see what I'm doing.

First day

Today was my first day back at work. The day went by super fast even though I was pretty brain dead from the lack of sleep (4.5 hours). I couldn't drink much caffein because it affects the milk for Ely. I did find myself more efficient perhaps because of all of the multi-tasking I did at home.

I was super exhausted once I got home. Ely was tired too and after waiting for an hour for him to wake up, I fell asleep next to him. It's going to be an early night for the Lees. 8pm on a Friday night, you may find us sleeping.

I'm sure we will get used to this new routine soon enough. Toby and Charlie were not happy about being locked up in a kennel. Poor guys.
